As a contribution to the current nation-wide conversation and activism to combat police and societal targeting of the black and brown male body, The New Black Fest commissioned six black male playwrights to write monologues and performance essays reflecting on these issues. With these plays, The New Black Fest’s wish is that serious discussion and action is incited in our communities.
The evening will feature the work of playwrights Dennis A. Allen II, Idris Goodwin, Eric Holmes, Nathan James, Glenn Gordon, and Nathan Yungerburg.
Readings will be followed by a discussion with the playwrights, The New Black Fest’s Artistic Director Keith Josef Adkins, and others.
Adkins’ new play Pitbulls will have its world premiere this Fall at Rattlestick Theater in NYC, with previews beginning Nov 5. Opens November 13.
